Sometimes hip pain presents in younger patients with minimal arthritis. The cause can be multifactorial, and the main diagnostic consideration is to establish if the pain is from inside or outside the hip joint.

Pain from outside the joint can be muscle injuries, tight fascial bands, bursitis, or conditions not related to the hip but seem to be originating from there. Pain inside the hip can be early arthritis, the blood supply to the hip being compromised, or the hip having labral tears or a bone bump in the hip. Often we need an MRI and occasionally a hip injection to determine the cause of the pain. If we feel the hip needs an arthroscopy or camera treatment to get it better, we work with specialist units in Brisbane that provide this service, but if it's outside the hip joint we have an excellent team of physios that can help.
